MACHINE SHED MEMORIES
A Chronicle of Rural Life in Wisconsin
The second half of the 19th Century and the first half of the 20th Century
(1850-1950) saw largely European immigrant families create in Wisconsin communities of small dairy farms. Most of these communities included a one room school house, a church, a cheese factory, a store and some a tavern. Machine Shed Memories is the story of just one of these communities and the many people who gave it life and spirit.

100 TOUGH
Children's Book
Two Angus cows and their calves arrive at Meadow Brook Farm in Wisconsin in
the beginning of the summer of 2008. The cattle are hesitant about their new surroundings and one of the calves, named 100, is very sick and has little chance of surviving. This is a story of Farmer Ron, who cared for the cattle with the skills of a self-trained veterinarian; his long time friend Papa, who owns Meadow Brook Farm and helps tend to the farm and its animals; and Papa's family who loved the calves. The story takes place over the summer, showing how Farmer Ron, Papa and their family help the cattle settle into their new home. It also shows how the attention and love of Farmer Ron, Papa and their family helped #100 beat the odds of surviving and grow to be a tough young bull.

STORIES OF LIFE'S WINDING PATHWAYS
By Helen Arlene Jelinske
Helen Arlene Laduron was born in the farm house of her grandparents Thomas Edwin and Mary Ann Couillard in Coullardville. Years later, with her husband Ernest Janssen, Helen returned to Meadow Brook Farm with their three boys. After the death of Ernest and returning to college she married Leo Jelinski. Following careers in teaching and social work Helen retired, built a cottage on the Oconto River in Couillardville and wrote about her memories of growing up in Couillardville. From the book’s Forward; “I was born there, in that house. Perhaps that is why I can really never leave. How can I when endless memories bring it all back to me so clearly? I am standing on the back porch on a summer evening listening for the plaintiff call of the whip-poor-will down in the woods. Then I can hear the soft lowing of the cows in the ‘creek bottom’ as they settle down for the evening….”

PETER and ROSALIE JANSSEN FAMILY
By Their Grandchildren
Urban Janssen, the tenth of 13 children of Peter and Rosalie Janssen, maintained a photo album of his growing up years. His album was passed to his daughter Jean who made it available as the main source for this book. This record has been created so that the descendants of Peter and Rosalie could better envision the times they raised their children, primarily at the farm in Abrams, Wisconsin. Much of the content of this photo album was taken from the Janssen Family Tree and Cookbook created with the leadership of Joan C. Bushmaker Pfotenhauer and Susan J. Bushmaker and the extra work of countless Janssen family members who contributed photos and stories.
This book includes insightful, poignant and some humorous memories of the grandchildren of Peter and Rosalie.

ELIANYA’S STORY
A Native Girl’s Life in Ancient Wisconsin
This charming and informative tale recounts the life and adventures of a fictional young Native girl coming of age along the banks of the present-day Oconto River in Northeastern Wisconsin.
Set around the year A.D. 1000, long before the arrival of American and European settlers in the region, “Elianya’s Story” paints a picture of what daily life may have been like for a young girl growing up in the traditional culture of that era. Though the episodes are fictional, they are based upon careful research into the likely social conditions of that time.
